Fighting Disinformation & the Role of AI
How is artificial intelligence reshaping the spread of disinformation—and how can it help us fight back? Taking place on 24 September 2026 at the University of Lausanne, this one-day interdisciplinary workshop brings together researchers, media professionals, policymakers, technology experts and students to explore AI’s complex role in today’s information ecosystem.
The programme bridges academic research and practical experience. Participants will examine how AI can amplify false narratives, synthetic content and deepfakes, while also enabling new approaches to detection, fact-checking and media authentication. Through keynote talks and panel discussions, speakers will address the latest evidence, emerging policy questions and the realities of combating disinformation in newsrooms, public institutions and technology platforms.
A research paper session will showcase work by early-career scholars, while an interactive Solutions Lab will invite participants to collaborate on pressing challenges and develop concrete recommendations. The day will conclude with a special address on leadership, trust and responsibility in an era of AI-driven disinformation.
The workshop is organised by the HEC Research Center for Grand Challenges and the Department of Information Systems at the University of Lausanne, with the support of the Geneva Innovation Movement.
Further details and the full programme are available on the event website. Registration is closed, but GIM members can still secure a spot by contacting us before 14 September COB.
